Missing Out: How Fish Advice May Be Costing Our Kids’ Brain Power (15 min) 11:35-11:50 AM

For over two decades, due to an abundance of caution in the absence of data, government-issued fish advisories have warned pregnant women to limit their seafood intake because of concerns over mercury. Now that the data are in, the science tells a different story — one where avoiding fish is doing more harm than good. In this eye-opening talk,  we’ll explore how outdated advice is depriving another generation of children of critical brain-building nutrients found almost exclusively in fish. It’s time to rethink what we tell moms — and why it’s time to change the conversation.

  • Presenter: Dr. Maya Maroto, EdD, MPH, RD, Nutrition Science & Public Health Strategist, VP at FoodMinds, former Chief, Education and Outreach Branch at FDA
